Students of all majors can enroll in related courses at Manhattan School of Music including “Practical Foundations for Music Careers”, “Career Essentials for the Orchestral Musician”, “Advanced Practicum for Careers in Contemporary Performance”, “Becoming an Arts Ambassador”, “The Musician as Educator”, “Fundamentals of Music Education”, “Community Engagement for Musicians”, “Jazz Musician as Educator”,  “Arts & Education Training”, and/or “Professional Performance Diploma Seminar.”

The CCRCI Internship Program offers real-world experience, skills and contacts that enhance on-campus coursework and foster career readiness.

Students eager to gain professional arts experience in one of the world’s most dynamic cities have a terrific array of possibilities to enhance their education. Internships for current students (juniors, seniors, and graduate students) are arranged for one semester, are for 3 credits, and are unpaid.

Manhattan School of Music’s community impact program provides high-quality musical performances and instruction to over 2,000 New York residents.

Manhattan School of Music students teach and perform in a variety of preK-12 schools. School groups are also invited to Manhattan School of Music’s campus for educational performances throughout the year. Additionally, Manhattan School of Music students present meaningful musical performances for elder audiences and their caregivers in senior living residences, memory care programs, and community centers. All performances are followed by a Q&A and meet & greet session. Students learn how to expand their performance techniques in nontraditional concert settings and how to artistically engage with their audience.

Recent initiatives include:

• Adults with Alzheimer’s disease: Manhattan School of Music student artists visit and perform for adults with varying stages of Alzheimer’s disease.  Student artists are trained through coursework and guest speakers from partner organizations.
• Homebound seniors: In partnership with Dorot’s “University Without Walls” program, Manhattan School of Music student artists teach weekly telephone classes to homebound seniors in the NYC metropolitan area.  Ongoing programs include “The Beauty of Opera” and “Jazz: America’s Great Music.” The program aims to teach about music and to provide homebound seniors with an opportunity to join a vibrant community of lifelong learners.

Manhattan School of Music and Teachers College Columbia University offer a pathway program at the Master’s level.

This accelerated program, designed to be completed in approximately three years, gives the student a MM (Master of Music) from Manhattan School of Music and an Ed.M. (Master of Education) in Music Education with New York State K–12 Music Teacher Certification from Teachers College Columbia University.

Each school year MSM’s Center for Career Readiness and Community Impact (CCRCI) produces dozens of informative Setting the Stage panel discussions and hands-on workshops. A range of music professionals and entrepreneurs, including many MSM alumni, share valuable advice, insights, and experience to help MSM students and alumni advance their careers.

Manhattan School of Music students and alumni are world-class artists, instructors, and leaders, both on and off the stage.

Through the school’s Hire a Musician Referral Services, clients can engage MSM musicians for performances, share longer-term professional opportunities, and hire currently active private teachers from the MSM community.

Our Hire a Musician Referral Service connects those looking for performers for a special event with MSM musicians. The CCRCI helps to facilitate music for a range of Weddings and ceremonies, Receptions, Corporate events, and Social gatherings in the greater NYC area.

MSM’s Center for Career Readiness & Community Impact (CCRCI) is pleased to offer the school’s inaugural Travel Assistance Program for the 2024-2025 academic year. The Travel Assistance Program provides assistance in the form of financial reimbursement to select MSM students for professional development and/or employment opportunities related to their chosen field.

Applications for the Travel Assistance Program (TAP) are accepted on an ongoing basis and must be for events taking place after submission.
